was not going to step down from the presidential podium into that courtroom and become a prosecutor. mitt romney was happy to take on the role of the smiling prosecutor, which i think we can all agree was exactly what he should have done. tactically what we saw mitt romney do makes sense from where we're sitting certainly, and when you are sitting where we're sitting, watching what the president was doing in the debate, being careful, protecting his lead, you might say, you can look at that and say that's not going to work in the next two debates. and i think team obama is probably looking at that right now and saying okay, we have to step into this debate. we can't stand back and i would differ with you, rachel about the moderator point in this debate. i actually like this kind of debate because the moderator is not a factor. he leaves it up to the debaters to make it a debate. mitt romney's team knew that and mitt romney came into this debate determined to make it a debate. no one brought up green jobs. the moderator didn't bring up green jobs. mitt romney did to use it as a tool against the p

's debate was certainly a big win for mitt romney, hands down. but observers are still criticizing him, actually, about not giving enough details. so, i want to read to you what a conservative columnist for "new york times" said right after the debate. romney had his share of lines and the stinctions he drew between romney care and obama care and didn't say anything about helping the uninsured. how do you respond to that? is it time for romney to give more specifics? is he having a problem with that? >> easy to criticize both of them for not giving enough specifics. romney has a 59-point economic plan that most people have never looked at. i would say that is probably too specific. i think mitt romney should focus on saying things like, mr. president, we are, you seem to have a problem with profits, which my company made. but most americans have a problem with deficits, which you've rung up four consecutive trillion dollar deficits. they both have a ltle problem with details. but there is a big, i would strike a big contrast if i was mitt romney. i would put a working state on one side

doing better is supposed to trickle down to non rich people somehow. that is the core of mr. romney's economic ideology and economic plan. so i think they have coined this other competing trickle down term so the insult of trickle-down economics starts to just sound confusing and meaningless. trickle-down government, trickle-down economics, both sides are saying this, i don't really know what it means, it's just political noise. mr. romney trying to rob that phrase of its power by using the phrase itself in new nonsense ways. right? we know one way mr. romney may be trying to neutralize expected attacks on his economic ideas could be to rob his opponent's words of any meaning, right? now we also know after last night's debate is the other thing he's doing is just saying the economic plan he has been stumping for all year long is not his plan at all. mr. romney worked both those strategies last night and mr. romney, of course, won the debate, on style, on presentation, he won on demeanor. now day two is the attempted cleanup for things he actually said. today has been a day of mr. ro

into the debate romney was down a handful in florida, handful or more in virginia, handful or more in ohio where you just showed the president moments ago in wisconsin. come to the electoral map, this is the big question. first of three debates, gives republicans energy at a time many of them were beginning to worry about the top of the ticket. so will it change the state of play? that is the thing to watch going forward into the vice presidential debate and then round two and three i would say the state to watch most is this one, ohio. governor romney needs to win it. had the president had a decisive debate performance last night, a lot of democrats are thinking he could have put ohio away because he was up five, six, maybe seven points there. that's not the case today, wolf. the president could have maybe put away a couple battleground state, he didn't do. the chance for mitt romney, can he capitalize? and how will the president try to recover? >> he certainly missed a golden opportunity i thought to solidify some of the standing in some of those key battleground states and he avoided some of
